[Global Korea] Lone Star Lawsuit, Citizens…Hands off.

The legal battle over a multibillion-dollar investment compensation case between U.S. private equity firm Lone Star and the Korean government will start with its first hearing in Washington D.C. on Friday. The U.S. fund demands $4.68 billion in compensation from the Korean government. International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, which is in charge of the lawsuit, is not opening any of the related materials to public. There is a section in the ICSID homepage where people can view on individual lawsuit, but this case is being completely left out. The ones who claimed the lawsuit opposed to the observance of the third party. Citizens have no choice but to rely on the government for any truth to be told, but the ironic thing is that the authenticity itself may not be a fact. Therefore, people have doubt on the government's opinion on keeping everything a secret for national interests. So there is a controversy among people stating that there might be something behind all this.

[글로벌 코리아]론스타 소송, 국민은 관심 꺼?

론스타와 우리정부 간 투자자국가소송(ISD)이 지난 15일(현지시간) 미국 워싱턴DC에서 시작됐다. 론스타가 우리정부에게 5조원가량의 천문학적인 돈을 물어내라고 제기한 소송이다. 국제투기자본의 유사한 줄소송이 이어질지 모를 중대한 소송이다. 막대한 국부유출의 가부가 달린 소송이다. 하지만 정작 우리국민은 국외자로 소외되고 있다.

소송을 맡은 국제투자분쟁해결센터(ICSID)는 소송에 대한 자료를 전혀 공개하지 않고 있다. ICSID 홈페이지에는 개별 소송에 대한 정보를 제공하기 위한 페이지가 따로 있지만 론스타 소송만은 텅 빈 상태다. 소송 당사자들이 모두 제3자의 심리 참관을 반대했기 때문인 것으로 전해졌다. 국민들은 정부의 일방적인 전언에 의지할 수밖에 없다. 현재는 정부 전언의 진위 여부조차 가리기 힘든 상황이다. 국익을 위해서 정보 관리를 하겠다는 정부의 주장이 먹히지 않는 이유다. 되레 '이번 소송에 무슨 흑막이 있지 않냐'는 의심을 불러일으키고 있다.
