현대차그룹 계열사인 현대엠코가 정의선 현대차 부회장의 개인회사인 서림개발(주)에 8억여원을 지원한 것과 관련해 엠코의 당시 대표이사 등이 배임 행위를 저질렀다는 지적이 일고 있다.

현대엠코가 서림개발에 돈을 준 명분이 '조경수 묘목 식재용 토지 임대에 대한 대가'인데, 해당 토지 인근에 엠코가 예전부터 소유해온 대규모 땅이 발견됐기 때문이다.

결국 현대엠코가 실제 필요도 없는 토지를 임대하고 이를 핑계로 오너일가의 개인 부동산관리회사 운영비를 제공해온 셈이다.

25일 법조계 인사는 "이것이 사실이면 엠코가 서림개발과 토지임대 계약을 맺고 임대료를 지급키로 결정할 당시 엠코 대표이사 등은 배임죄 책임을 질 수 있다"고 말했다.
