Janghyeon-Yoon, the mayor of Kwang-ju, is suspected of supporting Shinsegae to obtain a patent for duty free shop by altering the usage purpose of the property

There have been speculations that the mayor granted favors to kwangju Shinsegae's construction process of a multi shopping mall.

Accordingly, the company's shopping mall construction plan is on the verge of being frustrated by politicians and local merchants.

Shinsegae said that the company expects to employ 2200 people in Kwangju Shinsegae multi shopping mall and have 5400 of permanent workers.

However, it is analyzed by the construction push forward committee that the opening of Gwangju Shinsegae will shut down 714 stores.

The committee said that the fundamental cause of such problem is due to the favor that Shinsegae received from the mayor.

The favoritism that the major is suspected to have provided to the company are ▲mayor's initial suggestion on the multi shopping mall business in kwangju ▲alteration of the usage purpose (hotel + shopping mall) ▲acquisition of patent for duty free shop.

신세계그룹 계열사인 광주신세계가 광주광역시와 추진중인 광주 신세계 복합쇼핑몰이 건립 과정에 특혜 의혹이 제기됐다. 이에 정치권과 지역상인들이 반발, 좌초될 위기에 처했다.

신세계는 지난 5월 광주 신세계 복합쇼핑몰 건립으로 신규 고용창출 인력만 2200여 명이 발생하고 고정근무 인력만 5400여 명에 이를 것으로 전망했다.

하지만 광주 신세계 복합쇼핑몰 건립추진위원회에 따르면 광주 신세계 복합쇼핑몰이 입점하게 되면 2380개 업체 가운데 714개 업체가 폐업을 할 것으로 분석됐다.

추진위는 이같은 문제의 근본적인 원인이 광주시의 입점 특혜에서 비롯됐다고 보고 의혹을 제기했다.

추진위는 특혜 의혹으로 ▲윤 시장의 사업 제안 ▲수익성 보장 위한 용도변경(특급호텔+합 쇼핑몰) ▲면세점 특허권 획득 지원 등을 꼽았다.
